Winning Trainer: Jerome Hunter

“I think Dean might come in and tell me he was a bit lost. He was a bit wayward. Over the last 100 metres he cleared them pretty well then I think he was just waving.

“He’s still new and especially Flemington can always undo a lot of horses but I won’t be worried about bringing him back here.

“We’ll just see how far he can progress. The prizemoney is pretty good in town so we’ll just look at races as they come along.”

Winning Jockey: Dean Yendall

“I watched his replays and where he ran and there was a few good runs amongst them. I asked, ‘do you want me to jump, squeeze, travel and ideally if he had something to chase it’d be good’. That’s how it panned out.

“He travelled really well throughout. A bit wandery up the straight but he travelled well into the race. At about the 300 (metre mark) I thought do I go now or do I wait and let them pick me up’ and then try and put them away?

“Then I thought ‘bugger it’ I think I’ve got the horse underneath me so we’ll see what happens. He ran away with it. The last 50 metres he got up and was looking around but he won pretty convincingly.”

On his country team: “Well I can speak for myself, I’m a gun jockey but whatever go’s happens with me. I just go about my own business. The others need to lift their game a bit. Motty’s got a winner on the board, a few of the boys are trying hard. Matty needs to lift as well. I think we’ve got the city boys covered. There’s a truckload of scratchings due to the track downgrade. Not ideal for me so I’m going to head into the tearoom and grab some sushi.”

Country team - Kevin Sheedy: “We’ve been steady. Denis has won a couple and we’ve won a couple. It’s only half time. Denis The Menace, I feel, has got a few horses in a couple of races coming up. I’ll keep an eye on him. There’s a way to beat Denis but you just can’t tell him on TV.

Dean Yendall - Wimmera: “I met his mother and father it was just a big tick and he was on a very good horse and there was a fair chance he was going to win. I just hoped our third horse just might have nutted out the second horse and that would’ve given us a few more points. It’s a good concept for us to have a bit of fun but there isn’t a million dollars in it for Denis this time.”

City team - Denis Pagan: “He had the Powerplay then so he picked up double points in the last two races. Tell the truth. The last thing you want to be doing is blowing your trumpet after race four.

“Willo is holding the team together at the moment and I think he’s got a win and a couple of seconds. He’s going a good job. Just need Damien to lift. Complete confidence in Jamie Kah. She’s riding winners left, right and centre, but can’t get warm at the moment. I’ll have to have a good talk to her.”
