“He’s a colt we’ve always liked. He ran well at his first run and then went fair second-up but he didn’t race to his best.

“We just thought that the blinkers would get him to show what he’s got. We’ve liked him from day one and they’ve done a good job.

“We took him out of the Caulfield Guineas. I just don’t think that he’s there yet. We’ll probably go on for another run or two. I think there is a 1400 (metre event) at Caulfield that might suit him and if he ends up in the Carbine Club then that will be a good spring.”

At Echuca: “He raced really cluttered up and I think he resented it. You could just see that the horse wasn’t concentrating or focused on what he was doing so we took him home and the blinkers went on. We rode him with a bit of clear air at Moe and he did the job - a similar result.”

“It was worth the trip out (to Moe last start). He’s a nice horse, this bloke. We thought he could graduate to city grade but I didn’t expect that. He let go pretty well and he had it comfortably at the top of the straight. He’s really gone on with it.”

Bigger track: “I think that has helped him just as much. He was really good on top of the ground, he felt great. He probably felt better today that what he did at Moe so that is obviously a positive to get through wet ground but he’s just as effective on top of the ground a big track up to seven furlongs has done the job.

“He’s a very nice horse.”
