On Matt Cartwright: “He’s really going well. I think that’s his seventh ride for our stable for six wins so that’s a good strike rate. He’s going well. He’s still got a long way to go but he rides work for us on a Tuesday morning for 4am to 5am and he’s hell of a nice boy and has got a good future in front of him.”

Wind affecting tactics: “It’s really interesting. I walked the track and I just didn’t think that it would suit the horses near the lead and everything I thought turned around the other way. But the last race showed that with Willie Pike winning on Ginger Jones that they can lead all the way.

“He’s a horse that loves to run. He was just struggling a little bit late, but he did the job.”

“He was actually very keen. Jamie Mott clicked Humzz up and he was awfully keen. I was quite surprised the way he stuck on. It was a very good effort by the horse.

“I was holding him back as much as I could. He clicked up at the right time and he had it all to the line.”
