On training the quinella: “That was good. Both these horses came to us this season, Rider In The Storm, he was just lacking a little bit of form and it’s another great advertisement for jumps racing. It seems to have reignited him.”

On the winning ride: “It was a great ride by Aaron there. I thought he did a terrific job. I was sort of hoping Ronan (Short, rider of runner-up and leader Tolemac) would hold, but I was really happy with both horses. I think they’ve got really good futures, both of them.”

On training a jumps winner for OTI Racing: “The big syndicators having jumpers is great. There’s good confidence in the industry and have a look at the crowd, people come here to watch this stuff, so I’m really pleased and grateful for the support from all these owners.”

Winning Jockey: Aaron Kuru

On riding his first Warrnambool Carnival winner: “That’s the monkey off the back. I thought my first two rides I was going to get on the board a bit earlier, but that didn’t happen - Warrnambool can do that - but the horse gave me a very good ride and it’s a privilege.

On today’s race: “I couldn’t really dive into his form but it looked like he liked 3000 metres-plus so the plan was to try and get him to switch off and that was probably the most important part of the race.

“We found a nice position, there were a few tricky spots there going past the winning post - I was crowded and was unsure on how he was going to jump - but he handled himself very well.

“The stablemate (Tolemac) kicked away and I was unsure I was going to pick him up, but he just kept finding and it looks like he’ll get a little bit further as well.”
