Winning Trainer: Ben & JD Hayes (Ben Hayes speaking)

“This fellow just loves the wet. He’s got a good record on the soft and here today I wasn’t quite sure whether he’d handle the heavy but he was impressive and Harry Coffey, he’s had two rides for us an ridden them both beautifully. Great ride by Harry.

“He just traveled beautifully, let him balance, and I think the key with him was dropping back to 1000 metres. He’s a real sprinter.

“First-up I thought he ran well but thought over his last 100, he weakened.

“In a high pressure 1000 metres, he hit the line fantastic and he’s a really nice horse.”

Ownership: “Tony Kynaston, there’s heap of others but he’s the biggest owner and he’s been a great supporter of ours. He was in Bella Nipotina when we had her. Just a big thrill to get a winner for the ownership group and at The ‘Bool.

“We’re working really hard and we want to succeed. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going.”

Winning Jockey: Harry Coffey

“I actually got a really nice run through. I just rode him where he was comfortable which is what Ben and Grace asked me to do.

“It actually panned out beautiful. From the 600 I was getting a really nice run through but that was aided but the way he was traveling. He really steamed into the race nicely.

“I was going to go a bit sooner than what I did but I just remembered that last little bit of advice from Ben, “don’t go too soon because he’s only got a short, sharp sprint so I counted to ten and waited a bit longer.

“When he let rip he really let down nicely especially in that ground because it is so testing. It is pretty hard to get past Hugh Bowman, it is pretty hard to get past Symon Wilde horses so he did a very good job.”

Competing jockeys in the finish: “They’ve got a few Group 1s on me but hopefully the way I’m riding at the moment I’m feeling really confident, horses are going well for me and I’m able to spin them around like that (and) everything go right, keeping the horse happy and they let rip that way.

“I pride myself on having horses in a nice rhythm and staying relaxed and taking me perfectly into the race and I was able to do that then.”

Riding for Lindsay Park: “They’re really good to me, the boys. A really good friend of mine, Matt Pumpa, works there now behind the scenes and he’s been able to get me on some good opportunities. He’s a ripping bloke, Matt, and through that I’ve been able to become quite good friends with Ben and JD, and also Will.

“They’re good blokes and I’m always happy to get rides for them, and I’ll tell you what, they’re going pretty good too. Their horses are flying.”
