Winning Owner: Olivia McKenzie (granddaughter of owner)
On the win: We’re very excited, for grandpa back at home I’m sure he’s cheering him home.
The horse: I never thought I’d get here, I’m very proud of grandpa who bred him and his half-brother Grandview Avenue and he has the family involved in them and it’s great. It’s amazing how well he’s run and we had a bit of confidence but there is always that doubt, anything can happen on race day.
Grand father: He just loves racing and he likes to have us a part of it. Ashford Street is the best horse we’ve had, grandpa (Peter) lived in Ashford Street (Lower Templestowe)
Winning Jockey: Teo Nugent
On the win: He just seems to progress so much and each time you raise the bar he really progresses. What I loved today he jumped, relaxed and did everything right and as soon as we passed the post he came straight back underneath me. He’s a much relaxed horse and when the job is done he certainly knows it. He kind of toyed with them there at the finish.
He holds a big part in my career, to finish my apprenticeship claim on him and to get my second metropolitan win as a senior jockey is so surreal. I know ‘Snooze’ McLaren will be watching there at home and a shout out to him, I know he’s been a bit crook of late but I’m sure this will give him a nice boost.
