On the win: “Very exciting. At home we don’t really test them like you might on race day so from an awkward draw, and we were quite vocal pre-race about how awkward that was, in a couple of strides he was outside lead and travelling comfortably and then just travels deep into the race over 1000m going quickly and then puts them away so clearly he’s very exciting.”

Short term plans: “We’ve had no big ambitions, we’re just capitalising on his rating and trying to earn some prize money for his connections but Starry Legend and Squid Game are no slouches and he’s toyed with them today at his fourth start. There is one more race on the calendar in two weeks time, but Mick’s in Queensland, we’ll talk to him, talk to the owners and work out whether we go there or put him away but he’s a big raw horse and still furnishing and clearly more to come.”

Winning Jockey: Jye McNeil

Progression from Mornington: “It was great from my point of view, he gave me a brilliant feel today. He’s obviously a speed horse but he’s really improved since I rode him at Mornington and he felt even better on top of the ground, on a better surface today. Mornington was quite wet, he handled it but he was able to let go even better today. He’s obviously taken good progression and confidence from his first couple of wins and the team have got him in great order.”

Suited to Caulfield: “I was a little bit worried, today’s race on paper looked like it was going to be a bit of a speed battle but he’s that quick he was able to get across and get into a position where he could really control the race and he really got involved really easily and then when he was able to quicken the race was all over.”
