Winning Trainer: Ben & JD Hayes (Ben Hayes interviewed)

On what they did between runs: “He had a heart fibrillation out of his last run and JD ad I probably didn’t do enough work with him going into the race so we just backed right off him, we changed things up, worked him a bit harder, had jumpout in between and this is the result.

“He loves Flemington, he loves 1700 and it was a great ride by Luke.

“That was a big thrill because he really needed to show us that he’s still got that ability and for him to win like that, just gets us on track to run in the better races, so we’re very, very happy with that result.”

On his spring path: “We always thought he could be a horse that could get to a Caulfield Cup, so he obviously needs to win a couple more and continue on but he’s going to have his chance now to head in that direction. If we don’t get there there are lots of races through the spring.

“To get him back on track, big congratulations to all the staff, because he’s quite a difficult horse to train at home and to get him back on track like that is a big thrill.”

Winning Jockey: Luke Nolen

On the horse: “He probably appreciates a bit of room and from a low draw we weren’t probably afforded that, but he sliced through them really good.

“He took me a bit by surprise because he travelled so strong in the run that I thought it might have dulled his finish, but he actually exploded through and I was obligated to keep going. He held them off so it was a good training performance from Ben and JD.”
