Winning Trainer: Michael Moroney

On whether he thought he’d won: “I actually thought he got beaten and I usually get it pretty right. I thought the bob of the head went against us, even the first still (photo) there I thought it had and it wasn’t until the photo finish (that I knew we’d won).

“So, swings and roundabouts. You get in a lot of tight finishes, when you’ve been training for as long as I have you do, and it usually evens itself out.”

On his thoughts in the run: “Our bloke is a still a bit new and I always felt that when Jamie for him he would give and then I was worried half-way down when he’d pulled a length clear by himself because I knew then he would start to have a good look around. He’s pretty new about it, pretty casual.”

On whether he might make the Caulfield Guineas: “We’d consider it bu tit’s just a pity we didn’t race on a better surface today to get a real true line on him.

“I’ll be guided by Jamie a little bit as well, how the horse comes through the run. He looks in the right order to me.

“If you had to pick one of my two, the other horse being Japanese Emperor, this horse always looked a bit stronger and just in the right order to take it in his prep.

“But he’s had a tough enough run today, so we’ll see how he eats when he gets home.

ON his weekend: “We had an up-and-down yesterday. Most of them went well for where they’re at in their preps, but certainly Japanese Emperor was the one that was hard to get a line on and we’re scratchings our heads.

“But, that’s what we’re paid to do, work it out, so I dare say we will.”

Winning Jockey: Jamie Mott

On the win: “It was a lovely win first-up and he did it so easy that he hadn’t been in that situation today where he really needed to fight.

“He showed great qualities though, he really fought when I needed him. Luke Nolen probably got a half to three quarters on me getting into the straight but I knew my horse would pick up for me.

“Trumby’s horse kept fighting to its credit and it was a ding-dong battle right to the line.”

On whether he could make a Guineas horse: “I’m not sure where he sits, but I’d love to see him on top of the ground to be able to confirm where he’s at.

“So far he hasn’t done anything wrong and I loved his fight today. It really showed great qualities.”
