“It’s very good for Jack and the connections. Jack made it pretty easy. He was very open to what we did.
“Whether we led or sat off the speed, it just eventuated that we were going to lead. I actually rode him at trackwork the other day and wasn’t supposed to lead on him because he can get a bit keen.
“But I was pretty happy at the back when from the 1000 (metres) we were able to get a couple of easy sectionals from the 600 and let him get into it but he was tough late.”
Thoughts 200m out: “I didn’t think he was in strife. I knew he’d be fighting out the finish but horses to my outside were very good chances probably because they were on a bit better ground than I was.
“But he just railed so well. I thought I had a couple of lengths on them and I wanted to keep him happy and in a rhythm.
“He was very tough last and full credit to Jack.”
Personally special: “It is. It is one of the little things you tick off along the way. It is just about head down and bum up and continue the hard work.”
