Richard’s soft spot for Subzero: “Subzero was a great horse. He probably did most of his work post his racing career even though he won a Melbourne Cup but he was definitely one of Richard’s horses.

“I read online that he said that it would have been very special for him to win this race in Subzero’s honour.

“Dymanic have been great clients of ours and it is a collaborative exercise getting these horses here. They do a great job syndicating horses and you can see why.

“We earmarked this race quite a while out and had him ready fresh. He’s done the job pretty well.

First win as a training partnership during the Melbourne Cup Carnival: “I think last year I was at Muswellbrook “TAB 2s” training on my own so it is definitely a step up in grade and class but it is a privilege to train with your father.

“We have heated discussions but I feel very, very lucky to be in the position I’m in.”

“I can’t go past the ride from Blake. You couldn’t have mapped it better yourself.

Next: “He’s a hard one to place. He was in a very well-placed race. There aren’t too many races where you get restricted by colour so we’ll take him home and he’ll race through the summer for sure. He’s returned in pretty good order.”

Winning Jockey: Blake Shinn

“It’s a great race to win and nice to break my account here on Melbourne Cup Day. For the Freedmans, Dynamic Syndications, great supporters of racing and I’m delighted to come here and get a winner - it’s really hard Melbourne Cup time.

“Nice to be back here in Melbourne against the big boys.”

On the horse: “He carried 60.5 (kilos), He’s got a lot of class, this horse. He presented really well. Richard and Will, they really know how to prepare their horses well and they prepped him up nicely for this race. They targeted it and it’s just nice to get the job done for them.”

On the run: “It was pretty smooth. We got in a nice position but the main thing with the weight was to keep him in a comfortable rhythm.

“He’s effective over longer distances so three-wide with cover and building was an ideal scenario and it panned out nicely. His class shone through. Great win.”
