On the win: “We were pretty confident today but she’s a bit of a handful, that’s why we need one each side of her to keep her under control, she performed and that’s the main thing.
The quirky mare: “I’ve got to do it (strapping) ‘cos she likes me. She needs two people to handle her otherwise she starts going sideways and whatever and it makes it a bit awkward for the other strapper. , so we keep her under control and keep moving forward.
On the ride: “He’s a quality rider, no doubt, he’s got the background, early days I think he was leading apprentice in Melbourne, so, I mean, you can't take it away from him. He’s had a few issues along the way but he’s a top rider, that’s why I put him on.”
Winning Jockey: Jason Maskiell
Getting back on: “It was a bit unfortunate I couldn’t ride her last time but it was good to bounce back.”
The mare: “She’s still a work in progress, she does a lot wrong, trying to hang in - I think it’s just more when she goes past them it’s more a security thing she tries to run to the one next to her, she is difficult but she’s a nice horse. It’s just when she hits the front, her mind wanders a bit , if she really knuckled down she wins even more comfortable.
On his current form: I was saying to my wife this morning i feel like I’m riding better than ever and mentally just really well at the moment, i’m really enjoying it and got the hunger back.
