Winning Trainer: Luke Oliver

“He prepped up for the race really well. Jame came down on Saturday morning and galloped him and he came an trialed him a couple of weeks ago at Cranbourne. Once they announced this race we thought he’d be a good horse to target for it.

“Probably as the rain came we lost a bit of confidence first-up having not done a stack of work. E gets through the wet but certainly doesn’t love it so I thought about 200 (metres) out he was all out but he always wants to find the line though and it’s a great result.

Cup Carnival Country Series Final: “We’ll look to go to a heat of that now. He had blinkers on for the first time and when Jamie came down on Saturday and we put the blinkers on in a gallop he said ‘you might be saying after Wednesady that we should have put these on 12 months ago’.

“I said I’m happy to look like a fool if that is the case and I’m glad it worked out like that.”

Winning Jockey: Jamie Mott

“Even going to the barriers you could see there’s plenty of moisture in the ground. It has really opened up now with five races on it.”

Blinkers: “He should have been putting them on last year, I’d have suggested the same thing. I trialed him this preparation and those half-mile trials at Cranbourne they go really quick and he was 20 lengths off them.

“He felt so good in his last furlong and I said to Luke if you put the shades on him he might be a bit more tractable and it should be a winning result.

“Lucky enough the conditions really probably didn’t suit him but he was too good.”
