Winning Trainer: Chris Waller (assistant trainer Jo Taylor interviewed)

On Brett Prebble’s ride: “He rode it terrifically. We thought the softer track, it’s probably not quite in the range that this horse appreciates the most, so we knew we couldn’t be too far off and Brett just timed it perfectly. He got him to the front at the right time and down in class and at this distance, he’s quite effective.”

On backing up: “We basically just gave him a few quiet days. This race was always there as an option and we really allowed him to tell us how he came through the run and everything indicated that he was perfectly fine and that was justified today.”

Winning Jockey: Brett Prebble

On the win: “Obviously it was a step down in class and I was hoping the rain gods would have been kind to us but that (rack condition) is actually as bad as he wants it, I must say.

“While he was on the bridle he was going to win by a long way, but I had to ask him to let down and quicken through it. He did, but he just doesn’t really extend in it, he’s not really confident.

“His fitness and his ability was what took him to the win, not because of the circumstances of the track.

On Desert Icon as a horse: “He’s a funny horse. He could go around in race eight, this horse. You wouldn’t even know he’s gone around. He’s got a constitution on him, he’s become very strong as an older horse and I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s going around in seven days time again, to be honest.”
