Winning Trainer: Paul Preusker (rep by Sonya Brockenbrau)

“It was absolutely amazing. The last run was a bit out of character but the few runs before that were excellent so we were expecting good things of him today.

“He definitely can mix it with the best of them and we’re looking forward to see how he progresses further.

“Paul is pretty good with his stayers and knows how to get them to go on.”

Winning Jockey: Dean Yendall

“There’s definitely plenty in the tank there with him. I don’t know why he went as bad as he did at Murtoa.

“I think he got a nice enough ride and was on the speed a little bit, but he had every opportunity to quicken up when he needed to but he didn’t seem to do that.

“So I was thinking that the ‘shiftiness’ in the Murtoa track might have brought him unstuck so he was brought back to a nice bigger track so hats off to Paul for getting this horse over the distance today.

“I thought ‘mate, you’re kidding yourself, aren’t you’. He said, ‘no don’t worry, he’ll be right’.

“He got a bit keen at the 1200 metre mark. Just had to play with him to get him to relax a little bit. Just wanted to get the job over and done a bit quicker than I would have liked.

“I wanted something to follow into the race but there was nothing there so I had to take my own decision just to let him slide around them.

“Yeah, I was deep, but he kept his momentum building without going hard on him and once I did ask him to go he zoomed up the straight a bit like the previous start and he put them away quite easily, I thought.”

Potential: “I think so. It is a huge effort to do what he’s done at a handful of starts and given he’s put in the right places. He settles back at home good.

“I don’t know if he looks for a break or trying to find another stepping stone but today’s effort was pretty extraordinary.”
