On how the horse has been going: “He was fantastic. He’s been in really good order, it didn’t work out at Geelong last start and we were pretty hopeful he would run well today.
“He’d come up well and he presented terrific in the yard, so we were pretty excited to see him run well.”
On winning a race during Cup Week: “It’s prime time to win a race, everyone wants to have a runner and to win a race on this particular day, or any day over the Carnival is A-1.”
On the decision to run today opposed to Saturday: “I had a few discussions with my owners and we just chewed it over a bit. We were barrier 19 of 19 to start with and then we got into 11 and that was a bit of help.
“But just with the lighter weight, going around with 54 (kilos) just seemed not a bad way to play. I was worried about a few of the better chances, but he’s in really good order and I thought he’d run a really good race.”
On the horse wanting to lay out late: “He’s probably got there and he’s been in front for a long way. They’re probably just thinking where do I stop or where is the ending point, so they just start to get the wanders thinking when do I have to pull up.”
Winning Jockey: Blaike McDougall
On laying out late: “He just got a little bit lost under pressure, wanted to drift out a bit late, so hopefully we didn’t cause too much interference.
“But up until then he raced brilliantly. He began well, we obviously had to do a little bit of work to come across, he had a nice breather there midrace and I couldn’t believe the way he travelled into the straight.
“He was full of running and it was a good dominant win.”
