Winning Trainer: Anthony & Sam Freedman (part-owner Terry henderson speaking)

Another smart one: “We liked him when we bought him. He’s very well-bred. He came from the south of France. Anthony and Sam have done remarkably good job to get this horse up so well and certainly to win over 1400 metres, which I thought was going to be short of his best.”

Expectation coming here today: “It is a little bit difficult to tell with these imports how they will run second-up. Sometimes they will give you a great run first-up. Anthony was deciding on whether to go to the 1600 or the 1400 (metres) today and he just felt another run at this distance would be good for him. We were a little confident, without being cocky.”

What now: “Anthony and Sam will work that out. We’re now in a situation where the horse has settled in so well that they’re great at planning out these horses careers. I wouldn’t be surprised if they tipped him out and got him ready for the autumn, but there is plenty of races left in the spring yet.”

Winning Jockey: Ben Melham

Bookend the day: “The hometown, it’s good to bookend the program. He’s a nice horse. He obviously ran well in inferior ground the other day and I had had a bit to do with him leading into that run and I did like him. For an import he has got a good turn of speed at this shorter trip. He’s a good kind horse, he has a relaxed nature and I would imagine he will get out over further. A wet track is no concern either.”

Getting out wide: “Right out wide was pretty firm, but it’s just a long way out there. They made it easier for me when the whole field sprinted before the corner and they carted me three-parts of the way out there and when he hit that, he really accelerated.”

Bright future: “He does, yeah.”
