On the win and his ability to run 2500m: “What a ride, another peach. He got caught a bit wide around the bend but then Jamie did what Jamie did; slotted in beautifully and got the run of the race.

“He let down well at the top of the bend, so it was nice to see him run through the 2500, that was the question but it seemed like he handled it well.

“I think that gives us options. He was strong at the 2000 and now he’s strong at the 2500, so it just opens up a few options.

“I’m not certain from here. This was one of those races that we just wanted to wait and see how he goes. We’ll go back home and make sure he’s OK first have a look at what’s possible from here.

On the horse: “He’s a lovely horse, he’s such a beautiful horse to deal with at home. He does a lot right, he eats fantastic and he’s nice and relaxed and even going around to the parade ring he’s a dream to deal with.

“He does himself a lot of favours the way he goes about it and you want to see that in horses that want to run this kind of a trip.

“I’m lucky and thankful to the ownership group that got him and brought him into the stable, so upwards and onwards.

On whether he will handle firmer ground: “I galloped him one day when he track was a lot better and I am of the view that his turn of foot is better on top of the ground.

“That’s an interesting challenge when we get to it, if we get to it, but I’m not nervous if the track dries up and we’re running on a (Good) four I’d probably approach it with the same level of confidence.”

Winning Jockey: Jamie Mott

On the win and the horse’s ability to run 2500m: “It’s really pleasing to get this win for Julius today, we think he’s a pretty progressive horse and he had to jump from 2000 to the 2500, which we didn’t think would be a problem, but I just loved how strong he was at the finish.

“He’s got super stamina and I don’t know where the ceiling is on him but he’s definitely on the way up.”

On the run he had: “I got quite lucky, it doesn’t normally happen from that gate, but I just began and rolled forward as much as I could without having to ask him and as we got out of the bend I was three-deep and everyone found their spots.

“I was just about to push on outside the leader because the tempo wasn’t too bad, it was steady enough that I could do that, but I had a quick look and there was a neat little gap that I stuck into in front of Ethan Brown.

“I was happy yo get that spot, he travelled super throughout and as we got deep into the straight he was just getting stronger and stronger.”

On the time since his Group 1 win at Caulfield: “It’s business as usual. I had everyone congratulating me and my family was so happy, I’m so happy myself and very proud and I haven’t had time to celebrate it yet but I’m sure we’ll find some time.”
