“The blueprint with all these nice colts if you’re going to win a nice race with them, it’s no use just going and going and going from when they have their first start, you need to time the run.

“I spent a lot of time in the ‘red folder’ driving myself mad trying to get their timing right, as with Bews also. I bought these two colts out here last Saturday morning and had a course proper gallop here - Bews worked better than Grand Impact but no blinkers on Grand Impact means no effort.

“A funny colt. Blinkers on on race day - he’s a real race day colt. But can’t take anything away from him and he was very strong to the line and it is two-and-a-half weeks into the Coolmore for both of them.”

Can he handle the Coolmore: “1200 no trouble. Top of the ground if they were to run a really fast race, the Coolmore maybe. Soft track, definitely. He’ll peak in, and so will Bews. That’s what we’ll do.

On Bews: “All over the place. Bad ground, he went left and right and off and on. Gate didn’t help but the whole race didn’t work for Bews but, look, I believe in the horse, he’s a really nice horse and he’ll definitely run in the Coolmore.”

Winning Jockey: Ben Melham

“He’s a nice horse and obviously a very astute stable. He had a couple of runs early in the spring and they didn’t hesitate to sort of stop with him and bring him back towards the back half and it has paid dividends.

“He’s had a couple of good trials leading in (but) he’s more a race day horse. He really switches on.

“The thing I like about him is he’s winning and he’s still a fair way off the finished product.

“From start two to three, he had two trials and then he’s here today obviously with that being the main aim. He’s improved off his second run. Obviously a big jump up in class today and he handled that well. Obviously it’ll be a big jump in class again in a couple weeks.

“He’s certainly in the right barn and I’m sure he’ll run extremely well.”

Did Economics’ scratching at the barrier affect his tactics: “It was part of the speed and I was able to get across to where I wanted to be on the track and it just took a bit of the pressure out early which was able to help him first-up. It was a pleasing win and the guys are going to have plenty of fun with him.”
