Continues start to career: “She’s a winner although she has been beaten a couple of times, but it’s good to get another one today.”
Thoughts in the run: “She is a little bit quirky and if he tries to restrain her, she tends to overreact. Ben just rolled with her and it was the right move.”
Fighting qualities: “She was running around a little bit and looked a bit lost out there in front, but she knows where the line is, for sure.”
Winning Jockey: Ben Melham
Conditions: “Treacherous. Obviously there is a bit of rain and a strong head breeze from the chute. She wanted to zing a long a little bit and I didn’t want her pulling into that breeze even though she was rolling a long at a good tempo. She needed a left whip in the straight, but my goggles were full of water and I couldn’t see my reins. We were just clinging on for hope.
“She’s a good progressive mare and she showed that today.”
Where opposition was: “Like I said, I couldn’t see them, but I knew she was rolling along at a good tempo and into the breeze it’s important not to be pulling them too much as they can chew more energy. She rolled along at a good tempo, a good rhythm and she was good enough to hold on.”
