“I was happy with the fact that the track was going to be wet because but to be brutally honest I was looking forward to racing him on a Good 4 because I still have this opinion that he’s better on top of the ground.

“I thought we had the opportunity today to see that but the rain has come and I wasn’t worried about that, obviously, as he’s won on the heavy so that wasn’t going to be an issue.

“Tough. They came at him 25 times along the straight but he put his head down and fought it out. To get four-in-a-row is not easy so well done to the horse.

Firmer ground in future: “I don’t think I know how good he is just yet. He’s improving and I keep waiting for him to tell me that he’s kind of seeing the end of the line but every time I go home he eats up and goes better the next gallop, so I’ll go back again and do all the things we need to do back home and make sure he’s ok.

“We might head to the Queen Elizabeth and that might be the telling one.”

Winning Jockey: Ethan Brown

“Very tough. He’s got a big tank, this horse, and I wasn’t afraid to use it and with his weight differential - he only had 54 (kilos).

“He actually waited when he hit the front and I needed a horse to challenge us sooner but to his credit he dug deep.

“Ollie’s horse put a head on us at one point and he’s kicked back. Very tough win.

“When that horse came to the outside I was able to bring him out there and put the stick away and he actually responded more without being hit.

“He dug in deep late and it was a good tradesman-like win.”

No Snapdancer in Everest but rides Alegron in the Caulfield Cup: “Excited is an understatement. I’m pretty pumped, actually.

“One door shuts and another one opens and I’ll be taking it with both hands and making the most of it.”
