"I was very happy for the horse. He's deserved that but full credit to Blake Shinn. We drew an awkward barrier.
“Blake had a plan and that’s why these top jockeys are so helpful. He asked the horse a bit in that first half but kept a bit so that he could come back and win on the line. Great ride by Blake.
“He looked to get to the front and the second horse came back. He dug in. He’s got a pedigree to run in the Melbourne Cup, this horse. He’s got a real stayers pedigree but unfortunately he’s had two lots of wind surgery.
“So we’re not going to get anywhere near that distance but he ran that out strong and wanted the post.
“He’s been racing so well and he had to fight for that today. He’ll sleep well tonight but the horse has been very honest with us and it is just a tragedy that he had those two lots of surgery otherwise he would have been running in a very good grade by now.”
Winning Jockey: Blake Shinn
“Tricky start. Fortunately my horse jumped on the front foot (and) therefore I was assertive. I got into a lovely spot and he relaxed well.
“I came out a bit early. Tony indicated that he’s got a breathing problem and at the 700 (metre mark) they came back in a little bit from the malf-mile and I didn’t want to keep restraining him so I brought him out three-wide and made it a little bit of a run from the 600.
“May be been slightly against us in the finish because he was out on his feet over the last 600 but he kept whacking away and it was great to get the victory on him.
“His tenacity and his will to win got him over the line. It’s great riding horses like this because they’ve got problems but prepared the way they are you can still get a win out of them. I’m rapt for the horse and for the connections as they’ve been very patient.”
