Xaar is a son of Zafonic, the US-bred European Horse of the Year by one of Mr. Prospector’s most influential sons Gone West, from Monroe, a sister to Show Lady, the third dam of Redoute’s Choice.

It has been a big family for breeding and racing excellence with Xaar perhaps its most brilliant product. He was the stand out champion juvenile of 1997 when he won four of five outings including the G1 Prix de la Salamandre at Longchamp by three lengths and G1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket by seven lengths.

Used as a sire in Ireland, France and Japan, Xaar stood for six seasons in Australia from 2000-2005, leaving 450 foals.

Worldwide he is credited with 415 winners (31 SWs) of over 1200 races and $33.7million. His best Australian runners have included G2 winners No Questions and Acey Ducey, G3 winner Overclock and multiple Listed winners Joku and Dalzar.

As a broodmare sire he is credited with 230 winners including 20 successful in stakes races, earning over $18million.

He has reached a pinnacle as a broodmare sire thanks to Harzand, this year’s English and Irish Derbys winner by Sea The Stars out his daughter Hazariya.

Harzand’s classic double came after Yankee Rose, a product of the mating of All American with the Australian-bred Xaar mare Condesaar, became the star 2YO filly of the season by winning the G1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes and finishing second in the G1 Golden Slipper.

Most recently he has been represented as the broodmare sire of two stakes winners at the Queensland winter carnival that are three-quarter sister and brother.

They are the Queensland Guineas winner Tsaritsa, the Chris Waller-trained 3YO filly by Dane Shadow, and Ninth Legion, a 6YO Fastnet Rock gelding trained by Peter Robl for Segenhoe Stud. He won the Listed Eye Liner Stakes at Ipswich.

They are both by Danehill sires from Xaar’s Jewel, an Australian-bred Xaar mare who won three of her 17 starts.

Bred by Davilora Lodge in Victoria and offered as yearlings through Edinglassie Stud at Muswellbrook, Tsaritsa went the through the Magic Millions Gold Coast sale ring for $165,000 while Ninth Legion made $110,000 at the Sydney Easter sale.

Also a Davilora product, Xaar’s Jewel was one of 10 winners from 11 foals out of Our Libra Lady (Khairpour), a winner in Adelaide of the G3 Auraria Stakes.

Tell A Tale, a Tale Of The Cat winner of the G1 NZ 2000 Guineas, G2 Avondale Guineas and G2 Hawkes Bay Guineas, is from Our Libra Lady’s daughter Cheeky Veronica.

Tsaritsa and Ninth Legion are two of a legion of stakes winners produced worldwide by daughters of Xaar.

Beside Yankee Rose,Tsaritsa and Ninth Legion other Australian offspring of Xaar mares include G3 winner Target In Sight (Nadeem), Macau Derby winner The Alfonso (Magnus), Listed winners Harlem River (Fastnet Rock) and Flying Affair, eight time Singapore winner One Rar (Dane Shadow) and G2 placed Carved In Stone (Rock Of Gibraltar).
