SOUTH AFRICA: Kenilworth Next For Delago Deluxe

3 minute read

Last season's top two-year-old Delago Deluxe, third on his reappearance in the Cape Classic, will turn out again for the Betting World Merchants at Kenilworth on Sunday.

Trainer Mike Bass said: “The owners sent him to me to have a crack at the Guineas and so he needs to race.

"As he has won four and is rated 107, it's hard to find races for him.”

Gimmethegreenlight has been raised to 107 for finishing second to Depardieu in the Classic.

His trainer Justin Snaith said: he will go for the Selangor Cup on November 27.

“There is a complete turnaround in the weights in that race. Instead of him giving Depardieu 3.5kg Depardieu has to give him half a kilo," Snaith said.

Dean Kannemeyer is considering taking on the older horses in the Green Point Stakes on November 19 with last week's impressive scorer Liancourt Rock, en route to the Cape Premier Yearling Sales Guineas.

“He will either run in the Green Point or the Selangor Cup," Kannemeyer said.

"I won both races with Roman Charger and Dynasty as three-year-olds but in those days they were three weeks apart. You can't do that now with only a week between them.”

Andrew Fortune, who hasn't ridden since October 22, expects to be back in action at Kenilworth on November 16.

He is reported to be on a health farm in Stellenbosch working on his weight and fitness.

Princess Victoria's spectacular performance when leaving the opposition for dead in the Choice Carriers Championship at Kenilworth last Saturday should leave her connections feeling confident that they have one hand on the Avontuur Fillies Guineas trophy.
