Mystic Master shed his bridesmaid tag in emphatic fashion when scoring a deserved breakthrough win in the Group 3 Juvenile Championship (1200m) at Kranji on Sunday.

Mystic Master had been placed at his first five career runs - three times getting within 0.3 lengths of the winner - but had been unable to secure his maiden victory.

He had also tested the patience of punters, having been a beaten favourite in four of those outings but he started one of the outsiders in the field of eight two-year-olds in the Juvenile Championship.

Jockey Alan Munro found a handy position on Mystic Master, sitting outside the early leader and favourite Caorunn in the run.

He threw down the challenge to Caorunn in the straight but both looked like being challenged by the chasers until Mystic Master found another gear in the run home, kicking away to win by 1.3 lengths.

Skywalk was the luckless runner, finding little racing room in the straight but he ran home well for second with Caorunn clinging on to third.

Mystic Master is an Australian-bred gelded son of Snippetson and could have more wins in store now that he has learned how to get the job done.

Mr Spielberg confirmed his position as one of Singapore’s more progressive middle distance performers with a fast-finishing win in the War Affair Stakes Open Benchmark 97 over 1600m.

After a slow start Mr Spielberg took up his usual position at the tail of the field but with the leaders setting a good tempo he was able to track into the race approaching the turn.

His supporters endured few anxious moments early in the straight as jockey Glen Boss faced a wall of horses but when a gap opened near the fence, Mr Spielberg wound up strongly to race to the front before holding off the determined charge of Nova Strike to win by a long head with Supernova fighting on well for third.

The win was some consolation for Mr Spielberg after he finished a luckless fourth in the Singapore Derby at his previous run, his chances ruined when held up badly in the straight before flashing home late.

He had won his previous run over a mile and looks a galloper capable of continuing his progress.

Satellite Prince was the biggest winner on the card, coming from a position just behind the pace to race away to score by 4.8 lengths in the class 5 over 1600m.

It was his first run over the mile this year and that looks the key to him with three of his four career wins coming at the trip.

Casing Royal made it back to back wins when landing the open benchmark 67 over 1400m.

Jockey Kasim A’Isisuhairi was able to find the box seat on Casing Royal, but encountered some difficulty on the turn when the horse dipped, forcing the hoop to lose an iron.

A’Isisuhairi was able to regain his footing and set out after the leader but Sun Empire would not lie down, Casing Royal needing the entire length of the straight to overhaul him and grab victory on the line with Splice a close up third.

The previously undefeated Super Line was prominent early but was under pressure a long way out and weakened to run fifth.

Friday night’s Kranji meeting saw John Powell produce a fine front-running ride to secure an all-the-way win aboard Von Krumm in the class 3 over 1200m.

Powell pushed Von Krumm out of the gates but he settled well after finding the front and though challenged for much of the straight he kept finding to hold the challengers at bay.

Von Krumm had a half length to spare on the line over the fast-finishing Divided House with Gato Negro fighting on for third.

It was Von Krumm’s first victory since last October but his fifth overall in 21 career starts, all of his wins coming at 1200 metres.

Master Banger started the program with a dominant win in the class 5 over 1200m.

Master Banger found the box seat in third place behind the leaders with jockey Matthew Chadwick pushing him along as the speed went on before the bend.

Master Banger though found another gear in the straight and quickly went past the leader Lim’s Respond to draw away and win by four lengths with Swift getting home for second.

It was the second career win for Master Banger, an Australian-bred son of Kaphero.

Moon Charm was also an easy winner, taking out the Initiation over 1600m for jockey Corey Brown.

Brown slotted Moon Charm into a handy position on the fence in the run and the mare railed through early in the straight, hooking around the heels of the leader and racing away to score by 3.8 lengths.

It was her first win in five career runs and the way she hit the line suggested she could have more wins in store as she works through her grades.
